Annwyl Parents, Nearly There!
We have had an extremely busy summer term. Only a week to go and we are still full steam ahead!
We have experienced so many enjoyable events this term. A huge thank you to all who supported our 2 sports days and our ‘Celebrating Learning Assemblies’.
The Nursery sports day was a huge hit, especially when blindfolded Mr Douglas went in goals! A special thank you must go to Reception class for helping the Nursery children practice their many different races!
A really super turn out to all events! THANKYOU!
(We fully appreciate how difficult it can be to take time out from work and to this end have planned to organise/include a later afternoon start time for the older pupils (3.30pm for Years 2 -6) for some of next year’s events.)
We also enjoyed: - Our World Cup Sports Day was a great success, the children were wonderfully behaved and it was a treat to have such perfect weather for the whole afternoon.
- The Infants and years 3/4 enjoyed glorious weather on their day trip to Langland Bay Beach, and also had an eventful time at Manor Park! (Best not to mention the weather for this event!!)
- Thank you to all who gave of their time in helping out.
- The Birchgrove road show went down very well. Our children were thoroughly entertained with a morning of music, celebration and dance, performed by the Birchgrove comprehensive pupils.
- The Year 5’s and 6’s had the most wonderful time during their residential at Llanmadoc, even the staff wanted to stay on another week, so may I take this opportunity to thank both them and the children for making the week so much fun!
You should have received your child/children’s report by now. I must say I was very pleased with all of them, as I am sure you are. If you wish to discuss any matter relating to your child’s report please do not hesitate to get in touch.
As most of you are aware Mr Trotman is to leave us at the end of this term to take up a Headship in Pwll Primary School. We wish him all the very best in his new job and would like to thank him for all his dedicated work and commitment as deputy head at Craigcefnparc, and especially for his time and coaching expertise during afterschool sports club over the past 4 years. (We will miss you Mr Trotman, but are eager for you to arrange an away game for us, so we may come and visit you!)

Dear Parents/Carers of Nursery Pupils
Nursery Sessions September 2010
From September 2010 we will be having two separate Nursery sessions, one from 8.50am to 11.20am and the other from 12.50pm to 3.20pm. Nursery pupils will attend one of the two sessions. The majority of children who are already attending Nursery will be in the morning class with new children who start throughout the year, when they reach their third birthday, being placed in the afternoon class.
There will however be four places available from September for current Nursery pupils to attend in the afternoon. If you would prefer your child to attend in the afternoon from September please let me know as soon as possible. These four places are available on a first come first served basis. If however we do not have four pupils who indicate a preference for the afternoon session we will have to choose four and this will be done strictly by age.
Yours sincerely

Dear Parents/Carers of Nursery pupils
Infant trip to Manor Park Wildlife Park 1st July 2010
We have booked a visit to Manor Park Wildlife Park (near Tenby)for pupils in Reception, Years 1,2,3 and 4. We had originally planned to include Nursery pupils in this visit however eventually were forced to decide against this for reasons of cost and duration of the visit. Any parents/carers who wish to use their own transport and join us at Manor Park on the day would be very welcome.
For your information the cost for Nursery pupils would need to be £11.50 per pupil however, as you are aware, they would need to accompanied by an adult and the cost for the adult would have been £14.45 as the cost of extra transport would need to be covered and the park charge more entrance fees for adults than children. This made a total cost to Nursery parents of £25.95.
In addition we will be leaving Manor Park at 5pm to make sure pupils get a full day out and felt this would mean a very late return for Nursery pupils.
Please let us know if you intend to join us on the day. Please note there will be no Nursery session in school on the 1st July 2010.
Yours sincerely

Dear Parents
Year 6 Drama Day – Cwmtawe Comprehensive School
Pupils in Year 6 will be spending the day in Cwmtawe on Wednesday. A minibus will collect them from school at 9am and return them to school before the end of the school day. They will need to return to Cwmtawe in the evening to perform their piece. The performance will start at 6.30pm and parents will need to make arrangements to return pupils to Cwmtawe for 5.45pm.
Pupils will already be aware that they have been asked to provide the following costume which is not needed during the day but they will need to wear in the evening:
Welsh rugby jersey/ red football jersey/shorts/socks/Rugby scarves etc. If pupils don’t have a red welsh jersey they can wear any red top or shirt.
Pupils will have lunch in Cwmtawe and can either bring a packed lunch or purchase a school meal – set meals cost £1.75 or they may choose alternative meals (£2.50 should be enough money to choose an alternative meal). Pupils should bring a drink for rehearsals.
Yours sincerely
Mr L P Trotman Deputy Headteacher
Dear Parents,
As you are aware, this year’s residential visit is due to take place at the end of the month. I hope these notes will help you in your preparations for the visit.
The children will not be swimming in the sea – they would only be allowed to do this if we were taking a qualified lifeguard with us. We will allow the children to go in the water, but only to paddle I’m afraid. The children will not be allowed mobile phones in Llanmadoc Youth Camp. The contact number for Llanmadoc Youth Camp is 386291. Please phone this number only if it is an emergency. The number will go through the manager’s cottage on site when she finishes in the office and she will then be able to get a message to us. For this reason it is important that you use this number in the event of an emergency only. In daytime hours please could you contact the school in the normal way and staff at the school will get a message to the us at the camp. You will not be able to phone this number to chat to your child. I realise this sounds harsh, but it is from experience that we have this rule. Without exception, the children cope far better than their parents do during this week! We will contact you straight away if there are any issues that we feel you should be made aware of. Your contact details will be taken to the centre. The children will need to bring sleeping bag, pillow case, sheet if required, torch, clothing, stout footwear, rain coats etc. Children are permitted to bring up to 2 CDs, 1 DVD (U) and a non-electronic game (board games would be good). MP3 players are also not permitted. The week is about teamwork, togetherness and community among many other things. MP3s, games consoles and other electronic games do not usually support these concepts well. The children will also need to be able to do a simple magic trick (if possible) and have a joke ready for the joke competition. Something suitable for this age group would be nice....! Staff attending will be Mr Trotman and Mrs C Morgan. Miss Munday will also be joining us in the daytime. There are also a number of centre staff who will be working with the children at the camp on a daily basis. Children will be allowed to bring £10 to spend in the local shop if we get time. Please could you ensure this is in a wallet of some kind, labelled with your child’s name. These wallets will be handed in to a teacher for safekeeping and given out again if we visit the shops during the week. Each child will be allowed to bring a small bag of ‘tuck’. Please could you make sure that the children do not bring too much, they will have access to fruit during the week and will have a snack and drink at supper time. Could you please make sure all children who require any medical devices such as asthma pumps come with whatever they may need for the whole week. Again, please label anything and give them to Mrs Morgan on the Monday morning. Please could you pack sun cream for your child, and make sure they have a sun hat with them. The weather was lovely last year and we could be lucky again! We are usually back in school by 2.00pm on the Friday at the end of the week. You may pick up your child at this time and take them home early. The very best behaviour is expected at all times during the week. Please could you reinforce this message with your child in the run up to the visit. Any inappropriate behaviour could result in the child being returned to school prematurely. The itinerary for the week will include teambuilding games and exercises, a beach study, woodland games, bush-craft, forest schools activities, fire building, and a range of games and sports including volleyball. There is an area suitable for tennis there so children may bring a racket with them if they wish. We will have one or two available if you don’t have one of your own.
I am really excited about the residential this year and know we are going to have a wonderful educational experience. If you do have any concerns or questions please don’t hesitate to call in to the classroom to discuss them with me, between now and our departure date.
Yn ddiffuant/Yours sincerely
Mr Trotman
